Episode 6
“Was it good?”
Eunwoo-kyung looked at Eunwoo eating beef with such delight, as if she found her cute.
Beef was her favorite, but ever since her father’s business had begun to falter, she hadn’t been able to say she wanted it.
Maybe it had just been so long, maybe it was the quality of this place, or maybe it was the way Eunwoo-kyung grilled it. Either way, it tasted heavenly.
“Yes..! It’s so, so good…”
Seeing Eunwoo’s deeply moved expression, Eunwoo-kyung chuckled lightly and placed a pile of perfectly grilled meat on her plate.
“Take your time and eat lots.”
“Thank you..!”
“?????”
Watching the strangely affectionate scene between her brother and her friend, Hakyung stared wide-eyed, glancing between the two.
“Oppa, did you eat something weird?”
“…Why.”
“I mean, you’re giving her meat.”
“You eat too.”
Eunwoo-kyung shoved a heap of meat onto Hakyung’s plate. Some of it was obviously undercooked. It was clear he hadn’t even looked.
“…..”
Hakyung squinted at him in protest, and he chuckled quietly as he called over a staff member.
“Soju for me. You?”
“Me too.”
The Eunwoo-kyung and Eun Hakyung siblings could drink. A lot.
Eunwoo, who wasn’t great with alcohol, looked between them and stayed silent. Hakyung chimed in.
“Eunwoo can’t really handle soju. She’s a lightweight. Beer?”
“Ah, yeah.”
Eunwoo smiled at Hakyung and nodded slightly, glancing at Eunwoo-kyung. He called over the staff again and ordered both soju and beer.
“Alright, let’s toast to our shared lives!”
As soon as the drinks came, Hakyung filled their glasses with practiced speed and lifted her soju glass, locking eyes with Eunwoo. Eunwoo blushed as she raised her beer glass.
Eunwoo-kyung clinked glasses gently with hers.
“Looking forward to living together.”
“..!”
When his glass touched hers, the subtle tingle in her fingers felt like the clink had gone straight to her heart.
Honestly, it wasn’t just the glass.
It was him. That face, that soft smile, those gentle words. It was overwhelming.
Big trouble. Her cheeks flushed before she’d had even a sip.
“???”
“?????”
The siblings stared as Eunwoo froze, face red.
“Hey, let’s cheers.”
-Clink, clink, clink
Hakyung clinked her glass against Eunwoo’s a few more times.
“Oh? Ah, yeah. Okay..!”
At that point, Eunwoo didn’t yet realize.
Just how deep she was about to fall for this sweet, dangerous man.
After their stomachs were full, the three of them stepped out of the restaurant.
“Ah… I’m stuffed…”
Tipsy, Hakyung leaned on Eunwoo’s shoulder, and Eunwoo-kyung chuckled lightly as he hailed a taxi.
Then his eyes landed on Eunwoo again. She was swallowed up in his coat, only her small face peeking out.
So tiny… Cute…
???
Startled by his own thoughts, Eunwoo-kyung quickly looked away and checked the taxi number.
“…It’ll be here in five minutes.”
“Ugh, I just want to lie down… Ugh, I don’t want to do laundry…”
Hakyung leaned heavier against Eunwoo, and she smiled faintly and spoke with uncharacteristic confidence.
“Pfft, I already did it. Even the towels, this morning.”
“Really?! You’re the best, Go Eunwoo!!!”
Then suddenly, a familiar male voice came from nearby.
“New hire?”
“???”
“????”
“?????”
The three looked in the direction of the voice.
A man with wavy bleached blond hair and pale skin stood there—someone who immediately drew attention.
It was the company CEO, Baek Soohyuk, whom she had met at her interview earlier.
“Oh, hello..!”
Eunwoo quickly unwrapped Hakyung’s arm from around her neck, stood up straight, and bowed politely.
“Fancy meeting you here?”
With a cigarette in one hand, Baek Soohyuk walked right up to Eunwoo. She did her best to smile despite the smoke and strong cologne nearly making her gag.
His eyes drifted to her oversized coat and then to the man standing behind her.
“Friends?”
Before Eunwoo could answer, Eunwoo-kyung stepped forward to stand next to her.
Seeing this big man at her side gave her an odd sense of comfort.
“Her brother.”
“!!!”
“!!!”
Surprised by his firm response, both Eunwoo and Hakyung turned to look at him. Eunwoo-kyung simply smiled politely at the CEO.
Baek Soohyuk, though curious, smiled back casually as he glanced between them.
“Ah, hello. I’m Baek Soohyuk.”
Eunwoo-kyung returned a brief smile—the kind that said “this is enough.”
It wasn’t impolite, but it wasn’t exactly warm either.
A smile that conveyed a silent warning: If you mess with my little sister, you’re dead.
Baek Soohyuk’s gaze returned to Eunwoo. He had assumed she was just a sheltered girl, but apparently, she had quite the intimidating brother.
Interesting. They didn’t look alike at all. But if she was doing laundry…
“W-Well..! See you tomorrow!”
Eunwoo bowed again quickly, and Baek Soohyuk gave her a soft smile.
“Yeah.”
“….”
‘Why does he keep speaking informally? It’s so rude…’
After that awkward encounter, the three got in the taxi, and an odd silence fell.
‘Oppa…’
Eunwoo had only ever used that term with her ex-boyfriend in college. Calling Eunwoo-kyung “oppa” made her cheeks warm for a whole new reason.
“Hey, your boss is kinda cute. Isn’t the office near here?”
“Yeah, basically next door.”
Hakyung nodded, seemingly amused.
“So young! How old do you think he is?”
Eunwoo just shrugged.
“But kind of a jerk, right?”
“…Yeah, he keeps using informal speech.”
“Just because he’s the CEO? At best, he’s your oppa’s age.”
“Exactly. It’s annoying.”
As Eunwoo pouted, Eunwoo-kyung, sitting up front, let out a subtle sigh.
He hadn’t liked the guy from the start.
Seeing the CEO again only made it worse.
Holding a cigarette while speaking to people, throwing around casual speech with a stranger—he was clearly that type.
Still, it’s not like a new hire and a CEO would interact much anyway…
